Supporting the Liberal Party
With Labour tearing itself apart and being hijacked by the far left we need an alternative
Unlike the Lib Dems who sold out to the Tory Party, the continuing Liberal Party have stuck to our principles. We support a dynamic economy, encourage individual enterprise, promote social justice and the development of individuals and communities. Here are a few of our key policies:
Europe and the World We respect the vote of the people and their decision to leave the EU.
We also wish to be more focused in the global economy, forging relationships across the world, whilst maintaining and evolving our relationship with the EU.
Social Justice and Low Pay We believe that government should tackle the gross inequalities of earnings and wealth.
Income Tax and National Insurance thresholds should be raised to remove those on low pay from the tax and benefits trap, to improve the disposable income of the working poor and low paid pensioners.
Help for Small Business For an economy to grow we must encourage small businesses and social enterprises.
The ever-increasing ‘red tape’ burdens of administration on small business and community charities is strangling our ability to grow the economy. These burdens need to be removed for small businesses and social enterprises and made proportionate for medium size and larger organisations depending on their turnover value.
Education for All We should restore the principle of Free Education.
Tuition fees need to be abolished;
these could be funded by a modest increment of inheritance tax excluding the family home. Let the capital of one generation fund the human investment of the next generation. And a comprehensive network of children centres is an essential investment to ensure children get a good start in both education and health.
Housing for all
Whilst Liberals welcome home ownership we also recognise the need to provide social mobility. A reasonable and balanced housing stock of social and private housing is required. Everyone should be entitled to a decent home. Local councils should be empowered to take steps considering the housing market in their area. We need legislation to protect leaseholders and shared ownership tenants from excessive charges.
Crime and Community Policing
Our jails are overcrowded, and we have one of the worst re-offending rates for criminals than any other European Country. We need a justice system that trains and has those who commit crime working in the community to repay their debt, not just locked up. We also need support for those with mental health problems who so often end up caught up in crime.

Your Greenbelt is under threat

Your local Conservatives voted AGAINST protecting our green space
At a recent full council meeting your local Conservatives voted AGAINST PROTECTING YOUR GREEN SPACE,, and greenbelt land such as that at Timperley Wedge and Carrington. This also includes urban green space, trees and vegetation.
The local Conservatives are saying one thing, but doing another.
Here is what your local Conservatives voted against, in full.
This Council notes the contrasting statements from National Government and GM in relation to assessed housing need in the Greater Manchester Spatial Framework (GMSF).
The council also notes the many delays in revising the document, which still contains the release of significant amounts of green belt. Council recognises that the revised GMSF reduces the number of units on the greenbelt. However, Council is concerned that Trafford is still loosing large areas of green belt land.
Council notes that in November 2018’s Climate Emergency motion, all parties agreed that the impacts of climate change, are so severe that governments at all levels must work together and make this their top priority. In the same decision, Council also committed to seek advice from experts to develop a carbon budget and set a challenging target date for carbon neutrality in Trafford.
This commitment to meeting our climate change responsibilities means that:
(i) We must do what we can to protect all our greenspaces, in particular greenbelt land such as that at Timperley Wedge and Carrington. This also includes urban green space, trees and vegetation.
(ii) We must protect natural carbon sinks like the wetlands at Carrington Moss and elsewhere, as well as Sites of Biological Importance.
(iii) We must ask for massively increased support for public and active transport.
(iv) Trafford Council cannot commit to the increase in air travel projected in this draft of the GMSF.

Your Green Belt is under serious threat.
Andy Burnham Mayor for great Manchester promised to protect our greenbelt. This promise like many things he has said has turned out to just be words, and no action.
54 NEW developments in greater Manchester are proposed. Here in Trafford some green areas became a political football pitch in 2018 and the Conservatives lost control over plans to build on areas like Flixton.
It comes as no surprise that marginal wards like Flixton have been taken out of the equation!
Post 2018 local Trafford elections the Lib Dem group formed a pact with Labour to form a local coalition. Part of that deal was that the “Timperley Wedge” would be saved from development.
Here we see the statement that the Lib Dems put out saying the green belt would be saved to be totally fiction, and the Timperley wedge is now on the cards for development.
The local Conservatives had their eye on the Timperley wedge so please take no nonsense from any propaganda that will spew your way from them.
Neil Taylor from the Trafford Liberal Party states “This is a huge disappointment, but not a surprise. The mayor of greater Manchester Andy Burnham is a man of words, but little action he has let us down.
The local Lib Dems are left weak in the pact they have with the local Labour group, do not trust them on the deals that they claimed to have made. I warned last year that this day would come, please see the Vlog that I did warning about this. Here in Trafford I will do what I can to save our green belt areas from unnecessary development. “
Extract below taken from the Manchester Evening News:
“Arguably the borough that saw the biggest political ructions as a result of 2016’s plan.
The then-Tory administration had earmarked land around Flixton Station - including the William Wroe golf course - for 750 homes, but the backlash was immediate.
Ultimately a vociferous campaign, backed by Labour, helped to see the Conservatives lose control of the council at the following local election. That site has now, unsurprisingly, been taken out by the new administration, but the two chunkier green belt developments proposed in the original draft remain in place.”
Timperley Wedge: 2,400 homes, 60,000 sq m employment space are the new proposal. Nevertheless plans have been trimmed since the 2016 version, reducing the number of proposed homes from 3,300.
People are going to be very angry about these plans, please get involved locally to save the small areas of green belt that we have.
Michael Le Vell - Kevin Webster NOT aware about the greenbelt destruction.
